Listen to Erathoniel ranting on and on in good ol' conservative Christian fashion.

I struggled with pornography for a long time. It was something I hated, and something I wished it was near-impossible to find. But just how hard is it to find porn?

Not. Despite the fact that it should be behind an age-gate, many sources of porn run it behind no protection, or minimal. One site is incompatible with firefox, so porn can be accessed without any age-verification.

And age verification? "Are you 18?". That's all. There are a few sites I've visited with full age-gates, but about eighty percent of those I ever went to had no separate age gate or even a visible age-verification system in Firefox.

And how hard is it to accidentally access porn? In a week, I got 2 porn links disguised as normal links, and I got ads for material without soliciting them while browsing on otherwise clean sites.

Filters work about ninety percent of the time, but some pornography does not use names or keywords familiar to filter software, and adding in the lingo for every type of porn is nearly impossible. And filters can often be disabled or worked around, so they may not even be effective.

So, I ask you, do we need a reform in the internet porn? I believe very strongly that we do. It exists, it's practically marketed to minors, and it is addictive and shameful. It causes emotional and psychological damage, and is a pox upon the sight of humanity.

In all its (legal and consensual) variations, Sex is natural and it is human.

Some of it (porn) really isn't natural.  One Asian girl putting tropical fish up another Asian girls butt really isn't natural.  Then again, that really doesn't count as "sex" per se, either.  I don't know what goes on in someone's head that they would find such a thing sexually arousing.

I can see where it would cause psychological and emotional damage if somebody saw such a thing, and then wanted their significant other to perform such an act, but in my mind, that emotional and psychological damage isn't because of the porn, it's because the person who would see that thing would have such disregard for their significant other that they would see them as an object that should accept tropical fish up its butt.  The person RECEIVING the psychological and emotional damage isn't the person addicted to porn...it's the person who is addicted to that person!

Now, if both those people are into that sort of thing, then no harm, no foul -- but there needs to be a lot of communication between partners and perhaps someone who is a porn addict isn't real into communicating and respecting their partner,  I don't know...but I DO know the problem isn't access or availability of porn, it's the mind and makeup of someone who is addicted.

Addictive? Meh, to some.  Shameful?  Depends on your own view.  Emotional and psychological damage?  I don't really see how...with normal porn anyway.  I've seen some horrible things in the dark side of porn...but that's usually tucked away behind the normal stuff.  You have to have a morbid curiosity to find the traumatizing stuff.  As for a pox? Nah...people like watching naked people do naked things.

I don't see the problem with it, really.  It's just like anything else in life...you can either choose to utilize it or not.  People get addicted to gambling, drugs, alcohol, gaming, food...it's about the individual and self control, not about the accessibility of the chosen activity.

Superman, you asked why people would go to porn sites in the first place?

Ah same old lecture people get inahbited of giving at your age auntie! Congrats you got listeners too barring me.

Strange I didn't ask! I just replied myself. Be my answer wrong or right I won't worry because I don't believe in digging a mole out of a hill. Also I believe in typing little as I can't think more as it takes my brain.

Because your ideas simply can't impress me ideas as mine can't you. We could have used nuclear power for only good purposes but we made atom bombs too. Why? Because man is a crazy devil. Why did Adam and Eve ate that apple. We want to know everything as soon as possible.

I am against it because it is against law in my country. I had seen it few time but I had seen many things even earlier.

PS-

Night Gone, Matter Gone

Wherever woman are concerened, the unexpected is bound to happen.

Yup I have a question- are such talks allowed at WC?

Gud-nite, getting late.

I spent four years controlled by porn. I first was exposed at eight, and I became addicted at twelve. I believe very strongly that it leads to a devaluation of everyone. Even in the less dark material, I saw my view shift to the point that I could no longer talk to a woman professionally or personally. I couldn't look at a woman and truthfully say that I loved her, because I didn't. I just lusted after her. I didn't hold my own will. It was as freely altered by the porn as by me, and I found that I was weak. When I got into darker stuff (not really rape, but fetishes and more, all unnatural) I found that my will was gone. I longed to get home and to the internet, and leave everything behind. I was escaping from life.

And that is why, because at sixteen, I have no relationships with women, and I will have to build all from scratch and work hard to figure out what is true and what is not.

What do you mean by this?

I have been using internet since the past 10 years or more and it never happened with me.

So I doubt if you were on clean sites !!

Can you just name or post links to your so called "clean sites"?

Because man is a crazy devil.

There are no such thing as devils.  And man is human...how could he/she be anything else?

Why did Adam and Eve ate that apple.

Ahh....to keep the doctor away?  I don't believe in the creation myth of the Bible.  Actually, I can answer why, figuratively, "Adam and Eve" ate the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil...it's because it grew on a forbidden tree!! and because they were told NOT to.  See?  If the fruit of the tree of knowledge and good and evil had not been forbidden, the fruit would have been no more inticing that that of the tree of eternal life, AND "the tempter" wouldn't have had any tool to use to seduce the humans into disobeying their creator, and those who believe the Bible wouldn't have the story of "original sin" to use as a condemning tool to control and rule over all the people who need or enjoy having others control their very life.

Sorry for getting off topic.  I guess that's an addiction of mine.

I thought the exact same thing at first but I chose accept the OP was being sincere.

A couple of years ago my ex boss's wife saw some porn related spam on his PC. I have never seen someone squirm their way out of it so bad. He even went so far as to call AOL ( yeah that about says it all) to blame them. He swore over and over to his wife that he had never visited a pornsite. One looksie on his company PC told me the truth.  Lets just say he likes them very large.

The things people will do to avoid embarrasment is funny as hell.

Answer this honestly, erothoniel....was it the porn controlling you, or your hormones controlling you?  Survival of the human species (all species actually) is dependent on procreating, and since generally men don't live as long as women, it's beneficial for the species to start procreating much earlier than the current norms of our world dictate.  I doubt you'll find a lot of 80-year-old men addicted to porn.

I, personally, don't believe we have as much free will as we are led to believe, but we are endowed with a brain that we can use to put up OUR OWN barriers to decrease our access to things we truly want to give up.  If you truly wanted to end your porn addiction at 12, you could have dismantled your computer, put it in a box, stuck it in storage, and signed up for as many meetings/groups/social outings as your waking hours would allow, so you would be too busy to extricate your computer out of storage.

I learned from my dog training expert that if your dog has a habit (like barking) that is self-rewarding, you must train an opposing behavior (like holding a ball in the dog's mouth) to over-ride and prevent the undesired behavior.  Humans are different from the rest of the animal kingdom only in that we have a superior brain, which we can use to train ourselves, just as we would our pets.  Conditioning an opposing behavior to extinguish the porn addiction would be a much better solution to internet porn, than to enact more laws and hire more law-enforcement personnel (who would, in turn, actually have to look at those porn sites to determine if they aren't "good" for you or if they violate the law....which means stricter porn laws would corrupt law enforcement officials, and "Net Cop" would be a job that many porn addicts would flock to).

Quit blaming the porn and the free access of it for your unhealthy relationship with it.  The problem is your chemical makeup...not the existence of porn on the net.

excellent question.

I was an early bloomer and I lusted after women long before I ever saw porn. They didn't have the internet when I was a kid but I sure managed to spend alot of time by myself.

The next question would be... Do you still masterbate? Ever seen a monkey? they don't have any outside stimulus to get them excited. They simply touch themselves because they like it.

Night Train

I remember seeing something on TV where a psychologist was explaining to a group of high school girls the crazy amount of times the young male brain thinks about sex--the male brain just fires that way at that age.  It's a little cruel that the female brain doesn't fire like that until she is somewhere in her 30s.

If the fruit of the tree of knowledge and good and evil had not been forbidden, the fruit would have been no more inticing that that of the tree of eternal life

The above post reminded me of the old adage that there are three ways to get something done - do it yourself, pay someone else to do it, or forbid your children to do it

Which neatly sums up why censorship of the web is unlikely to be effective, even if it were possible to return that particular genie to its bottle, and why an eight year old allowed unfettered access to t'InterWeb is going to be able to find anything they want to. All of human life is there, which is both its biggest strength and its greatest weakness, and why all of the computers in our household are in a common area accessible to everyone rather than tucked away in anyone's bedroom.
